yep, making it qould prob be the best way to go about it. just go to a craft stroe and pick out all the jewels and use a fabric glue to put them on. or theres this other kind its a one step stud system called "GeMagic" which you can also get at craft stores to put them on and they come in allll different colors and sizes. Its like $8 for a larger pack of just the studs or like $28 for the studs and the applicator.

How to measure bra size?

Cockatiel

How do you measure bra size with a tape measure

Answer
First, measure your band size, the part directly under your bust [EX: 26]. Do not add more than 2 or 3 inches to this measurement [EX: 28]. Next, measure at the fullest part of your bust. Usually across the nipples [EX:32]. Take your bust measurement and subtract your band measurement from it [EX: 32-28=4]. The inches difference would be the cup size. Thus, resulting in a bra size of 28D.

A cup=1 inch
B cup=2 inch
C cup=3 inch
D cup=4inch
and so on...

Tips to help on bra fitting:

I need help measuring my bra size.?

Annyo

I measured my bust and it's 30 inches, then I measured beneath my bust and it's 28 inches. What is my bra size?
I forgot to mention that I do not fit in any AA cups and I can barely make some of the A cups work. So, I've been having trouble with my size.
I do not fit in a 32 A....

Answer
To best measure your bra size its best to do it with your bra off. Go into the bathroom, and use a soft measuring tape. Like the type tailors use, not the hard type constructors and plumbers use. Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of bust. For me and most other women this is usually right across the nipples. Make sure it is fitting naturally around your bust and not too tight nor too loose. Remember this number. This is the CUP size. Now, measure right underneath your bust. Some people say to do it on top of the bust but I like to do it underneath. Measure underneath your bust and remember this number as well. This is the BAND size. Now, subtract the BAND size from your CUP size. If the difference is:

0 inches--AA cup
1 inch--A cup-
2 inches--B cup
3 inches--C cup
4 inches--D cup.......so on and so forth.

Then you take your band size measurement and apply it towards your band size. For example your bust was 30 and your band was 28 so you seem to be a 28 B. However, 28 is a rather small band size. The smallest band you will probably find in most places is a 32. 32 should work just fine and shouldnt be much of a difference. I would go try on some 32 B size bras and let me know how they fit!

Maternity Bras?

Q. I'm 22 weeks pregnant, and am just now out growing my pre-pregnancy bras.

Just wondering what my best bra choice would be. Should I get nursing bras (I plan to nurse) already? Should I stick with normal bras just a size bigger? Is there any such thing as a maternity bra?

Thanks :)

Answer
I had a maternity bra that I slept in...It was like a sports bra, but with lighter fabric, and you could move the panels aside after the baby was born to nurse. I wouldn't buy anything just yet...I would purchase a cheapie, supportive bra at wal-mart in your size now, and wait and see if you go up another size. After the baby is born, your milk will come in and your boobs will gain another cup size at least. So hold off on buying the nursing bras until after the baby is born, since you can't return them and they're pretty expensive. Good luck and congrats!

Maternity/nursing bras?

Q. Does anyone have any good websites that I can go to buy big maternity bras? I'm a 38DDD right now, and NO stores carry this size. Thank you

Answer
Hi I too and larger on top and had a hard time finding bras. I found this wonderful lady on Ebay that sells these bras that are so compfortable and really well priced. She will even help you get the right size by sending her your measurements. They are all cotton and cross over or are like a sports bra She carries in the sizes up to I think it is a 52 DD+ and more. Give her a jingle hear is her ebay user ID (breastfeedingisbest). She has great feed back I think over 3800. Hope this helps a little. They also wash well and the all cotten other than the wide elastic around. Try her she will answer all your questions and get the perfect size. She helped my size for my pregancy and then for the nursing stage after. I still wear them and my little one is 14 1/2 months old. I have nursed 5 babies and have never found a more comfy bra.

When did you buy maternity bras/bigger bras b/c of pregnancy?

jen

Mine are kinda getting small already now (only 12 weeks) but I don't want to get new bras now and then need to get more later! But if I should I will... What do you think?
I meant my regular bra is snug.

Thanks to all for the answers!

Answer
I bought a nursing bra in my third trimester when my normal bras were getting too small in the cup. If you're just too small around your chest and you're already on the last latch - you can invest in an extender for $2 at Joann Fabrics. Wait until you're pouring out the top to get your nursing bra - or sometime in the last couple months, that way you'll be sure it's big enough, as your breasts will get larger once you start nursing. Worst case scenario if you're already pouring out now....buy an inexpensive regular bra (Gillian O'Malley at Target) that is just a little larger. It may only last you four more months - when you'll likely be ready for a real nursing bra in a much larger size - but you can also use that bra again once you stop nursing. Your breasts may end up staying a little larger at least for a while.
Also - the Gillian O'Malley nursing bras are only $15 - so if you do go ahead and get one now...you'll at least not have to spend too much if it doesn't last that long.

But don't do it jogging in a storm. This in from Vancouver:

Don't use iPod in lightning storm, doctors warn
Updated Wed. Jul. 11 2007 11:40 PM ET

CTV.ca News Staff

Three Vancouver doctors are urging those with portable CD and MP3 players of a potential danger, after a local man was seriously injured while jogging in a thunderstorm.

The incident happened the summer of 2005. Witnesses saw the 37-year-old man thrown almost 2.5 metres after a tree he was running by was struck by lighting. The jogger had been listening to his iPod at the time.

The patient suffered second-degree burns to his chest and left leg, and burns on his neck and inside his ear canal.

Both of the man's eardrums were ruptured, and he suffered serious hearing loss and fractures in the jaw region.

Eric J. Heffernan, Peter L. Munk, and Luck J. Louis of the Vancouver General Hospital published their report, Thunderstorms and iPods -- Not a Good iDea, in today's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

While the report says the use of an electronic device such as an iPod may not increase the chances of being struck by lightning, in this case, the combination of sweat and metal earphones directed the current to and through the patient's head.

The doctors said while people can be struck directly by lightning, it is more common for lightning to jump to a person from a nearby object, such as a tree -- a phenomenon known as a side flash.

Opisthotonic muscle contraction may project the victim some distance, leading to further injury from blunt trauma, doctors said.

Because of the high resistance of skin, lightning is often conducted over the outside of the body (an effect known as a flashover), but sweat and metallic objects in contact with the skin can disrupt the flashover, leading to the internal flow of current and causing severe injuries.

Doctors said the jaw fractures the jogger suffered were probably caused by muscle contraction since there were no external signs of injury to the face.

run baby run song?

Q. A song that is rock/pop (not sheryl crow or garbage) and is a male band, chorus has a line that goes "run baby run"
Any ideas?

Answer
Check Yes Juliet by We The Kings

Great song, in my opinion =)

Lyrics:

Check yes Juliet, are you with me?
Rain is falling down on the sidewalk
I wonât go until you come outside
Check yes Juliet, kill the limbo
Iâll keep tossing rocks at your window
Thereâs no turning back for us tonight

Lace up your shoes (ay oh, ay oh)
Hereâs how we do
Run, baby, run
Donât ever look back
Theyâll tear us apart if you give them the chance (give them the chance)
Donât sell your heart
Donât say weâre not meant to be
Run, baby, run
Forever weâll be
You and me

Check yes Juliet, Iâll be waiting
Wishing, wanting, yours for the taking
Just sneak out and donât tell a soul goodbye
Check yes Juliet, hereâs the countdown
3-2-1, now fall in my arms now
They can change the locks, donât let them change your mind

Lace up your shoes (ay oh, ay oh)
Hereâs how we do
Run, baby, run
Donât ever look back
Theyâll tear us apart if you give them the chance (give them the chance)
Donât sell your heart
Donât say weâre not meant to be
Run, baby, run
Forever weâll be
You and me

Weâre flying through the night
Weâre flying through the night
Way up high
The view from here is getting better with you by my side

Run, baby, run
Donât ever look back
Theyâll tear us apart if you give them the chance
Donât sell your heart
Donât say weâre not meant to be
Run, baby, run
Forever weâll be

Run, baby, run
Donât ever look back
Theyâll tear us apart if you give them the chance (give them the chance)
Donât sell your heart
Donât say weâre not meant to be
Run, baby, run
Forever weâll be

I've been looking for some cute bras for a while, but they're all really expensive. Where can I get some cute ones that are cheap? And I'm a 36 C if that helps at all.

Answer
Try Aerie the bras there are cute and cheap. Victoria Secret is expensive, but sometimes you can get super good deals, so check there. La Senza is good too, some of their bras are expensive but you can get some cheaper ones too. Also, go to like TJMaxx, they have lots of cute, cheap bras there.

What are some cute bras and underwear?

Emily

Answer
Victoria's Secret has some very cute bras & panties and they are very high quality. They come in a variety of prints and styles, and fit extremely well. However they are quite pricey, so if you're looking for cheaper ones or you don't have a Victoria's Secret near you, I recommend Target. Their panties are very cute & can usually be found for 5 for $20. Their bras are also cute and of good quality, and depending on the size and style vary in price from $10-$30. I would also recommend Rue 21 for panties, you can sometimes find them there for $1 each (on sale). Good luck!

Why are women not wearing bras?

Your D

There is this fad going on where women walk around town wearing no bra is this fad brought about by the show Sex in the City.I have no problem with this ,just curious to know who started this fad that seems to all of a sudden be everywhere.

Answer
A Short History

CADOLLE is, above all a story of a family:

It is much talked about, and much written about: Herminie CADOLLE invented the very first bra in Paris is 1889.

This women, a friend of the infamous Louise Michel, who had no particular inclination towards this trade, was first and foremost a business women. She was also very much an action women.

One day, she had the brilliant idea of liberating women from the constraints of the corset; she created the very first bra, which supported the breast by means of shoulder straps. Herminie Cadolle had decided to separate the traditional corset into two parts, the top part specifically designed to support the bosom (and called the "corselete-gorge"). Until then breasts were painfully crushed under a long, tight-laced whalebone corset. Herminie's new undergarment, held in place with laces in back and satin shoulder straps, was revolutionary. She displayed her invention in Paris at the Great Exposition of 1900 beneath Gustave Eiffel's recently completed tower. Lingerie has never been the same since. Every season, when designers show off their new collections, a couture sale is often followed by a call to Poupie Cadolle, Herminie's great-great-granddaughter. Her magical underpinnings are known to make a dress fit the way it should.

We shan't go deep into the story of this extraordinary women and her family here, it would take an entire book because Herminie was just the first in a long line of women where each one of her descendants contributed to what could well be called the CADOLLE SAGA.

For the record, Herminie was the first to encourage the weavers of Troyes to incorporate rubber in their threads: it was the era of discovery of the rubber tree. Elastic thread (at the time known as "rubber thread") would soon replace whalebone and lacing.

It should be noted, that it would be Herminie's great-great-grand-daughter who would one day instigate the return to this antiquated fashion.

Herminie worked hard to develop her business, and the awards reflected this success: medals from Saint-Petersburg in 1904, Chicago in 1906, Saint-Louis in 1907, Paris in 1910 etc...

In 1914 the First World War broke out, and radically changed the undergarment industry. Men went off to fight in the war, and the women were called upon to take charge of the factories. The corsets became extinct, and the bra became a must-have, a product for the new manual workers.

Marie CADOLLE, the daughter-in-law of Herminie, would continue her important work. The First World War had amongst it many other consequences, irreversibly changed the image of the female form.

Until that time, women's clothes served only one purpose-to be beautiful by accentuating the female form. After the war, clothing took on the role of CREATING the female form.

Haut Couture was born...

Marguerite, Marie's daughter-in law, saw the opportunity and seized it-she quickly accessed the advantages of the situation. Up until this point, the seamstress had built the dress for the women who would wear it, now it would be the women who would wear a dress that had been designed to represent a certain style.

Since dresses would no longer be shaped to fit the women, Marguerite CADOLLE decided that she would shape the body of the women to fit the dress; she invented and put into production elasticated materials for which purpose she opened an entire factory.

Low cut necklines, dress of extreme styles; through her creations, Marguerite would build a union between underwear and outerwear.

She had already created the flattening bra for Coco Channel. She created bras in fine silk which were embroidered entirely by hand for the Duchess of Windsor.

Things had really come a long way since the ribbon and strap bras that Herminie made for the infamous spy Mata Hari. She went regularly to Mata Hari's suite at the Ritz. In this privacy Mata Hari would remove the live boas she wore around her neck like amulets and permit Marguerite to take her measurements. Another noted client, Wallis Simpson was "a terrible client, in fact the only one we refused eventually". Annie Giardot is a customer. Moreau is a regular.

When Marguerite died in 1933, at the age of 43, she left the business to her daughter Alice, a woman as energetic and creative as her mother. Even during the German Occupation of France, Alice continued to make beautiful lingerie using curtains for materials, Scarlett O'Hara style, when there was no lace to be had.

But, the name CADOLLE remained, much to the pleasure of it's regular clients, synonymous with rare luxury.

Alice CADOLLE would maintain this reputation as of 1933. The reputation of the company amongst the most elegant women in the world would know no bounds.

Many awards celebrate the loyalty of the company to it's high standards. Alice won the most prestigious award of fashion in the United States in 1949, just two years after Christian DIOR, the Neiman Marcus Award.

These days, crowned heads have been replaced little by little by wives of businessmen or oil barons. The princesses of the Middle-East have replaced Russian Archduchesses. Film stars have replaced the stars of the opera. The Cadolle client list is as closely guarded as a queen's true measurements. But a pregnant Barbara Hutton used to fly the staff to her London hotel each month for one of each in every color. Christina Onassis got all her bathing suits from CADOLLE. Catherine Deneuve and Brigitte Bardot must call ahead like everyone else.

Too discreet to name more of her famous clients, Madame CADOLLE divulges that among them figure three queens ("and après tout, how many queens are there today?"). She offers a tattered black slip, full of holes, which a French duchess wants copied. "Voil´ comme les riches sont", she explains holding up the garment, which looks like it's been taken from a trash can. She is one of the richest women in France, and look what she sends me. But, alas she is a duchess." Later Poupie fishes out the underwear of an English aristocrat who has her crest embroidered on each individual piece-even her garter belts. But her best client in recent years, she admits, is neither English nor French, but a "favorite" of one of the Saudi sheiks. She orders twelve sets of everything, explaining, "I have twelve houses and I never carry a suitcase."

"The corset is coming back into style," Madame Cadolle affirms. "Men love their women in them." And men are among her most loyal clients. But they love black."

Today, CADOLLE lingerie is still synonymous with luxury, discretion and the perfect fit. Each garment is custome-made and hand-finished, exclusively in France, with a price that reflects the 12-30 hours of labor that make it a CADOLLE.

Fad? Before this invention in 1889 women never wore bras.
Today... who knows. I don't wear on unless I have too.

When were BRAS invented?

Lola

Ive always been curious and i just decided to see when and where they were invented.. and even by who if you no that too :)

Thanks x

Answer
'During recorded history, women have used a variety of garments and devices to cover, restrain, or elevate their breasts. Brassiere or bikini-like garments are depicted on some female athletes in the 1400s BC during the Minoan civilization era. Similar functionality was achieved by both outerwear and underwear.

From the 1500s onwards, the undergarments of wealthier women were dominated by the corset, which pushed the breasts upwards. In the latter part of the 1800s, clothing designers began experimenting with various alternatives to the corset, trying things like splitting the corset into multiple parts: a girdle-like restraining device for the lower torso, and devices that suspended the breasts from the shoulder for the upper torso.

By the early 1900s, garments more closely resembling contemporary bras had emerged, although large-scale commercial production did not occur until the 1930s. Since then, bras have replaced corsets (although some prefer camisoles), and bra manufacture and sale has become a multi-billion-dollar industry. Over time, the emphasis on bras has largely shifted from functionality to fashion.[5][6]

In China during the Ming Dynasty a form of foundation cloth complete with cups and straps drawn over shoulders and tied to the girth seam at the lower back called a dudou was in vogue among rich women. [7] While they first arose in the Ming Dynasty, they were also common in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). In English they are known as "stomach protectors" or "tummy covers."[8]'

Is it alright to wear sports bras all the time? HELP?

whatever

I am a B cup and I find that sports bras are more comfortable than normal bras....I wear the compression type. However, would wearing sports bras all the time cause sagging? Are underwire or pushup bras the only supportive kind of bras?

Answer
Sports bras are for sports so unless you are playing basketball or running 24/7 I would suggest you go to a place like Victoria's Secret and get some help with being fitted for a bra that will offer support. You don't want your boobs smashed flat all the time or they will become saggy. I know sports bras are more comfortable but you can get used to underwire or push up bras. I know a lot of younger girls start out wearing sports bras but really it's a bad habit to get into. Good luck. :)

Answer
I have to second the recommendation for Shock Absorbers. I bought mine off ebay for about $13 and I wear a 28H. If you do look into Shock Absorber, I suggest going up a cup size or two (an E or F cup because they use UK sizing) and I have heard that the bands run small, but I found the 28 band to work well. Some reviews if you scroll down:

Other sports bras I have haven't tried but I have good things about: Enell and Freya Active. Here are some links to reviews on herroom.com, but there are cheaper places from which to buy, but Herroom has a lot of reviews posted.

Question about bras :)?

Q. Hey everyone! :) Do sports bras ever get to small? R they kinda like training bras where u grow out of them? I wear a sports bra and i was just wondering if i will ever have to start wearing a bra with cups? SO could u tell me if i willl have to start wearing a bra with cups and if sports bras ever get to small? Thanks soo much. Also I kinda want to wear a cupped bra on special occasions but i dont want my boobs to look like they have grown over night because i wear a sports bra every day. SO can i wear a cupped bra without looking like my boobies have grown over night? Thanks so much for ur help :)

Answer
sports bras are meant to prevent excessive bouncing during heavy activity. However as you probily noticed sports bras are not sized like cup bras. Sports bras are just sized based on your width, while cup bras are sized based on width and size of boobs. It seems like you are wearing a sports bra to do a training bras purpose. So to answer your question as long as your width doesnt increase your boobs cannot outgrow a sports bra. However if your boobs are big enough to fill an A cup, you should start wearing cup bras on a day-day basis. And since a sports bra kinda smothers your boobs to prevent bouncing, when you transfer to cup bras it really will look like your boobs grew overnight, And people including yourself will just have to deal with the fact that you actually have boobs

Victoria Secret bras?

Victoria

I dont understand the difference between the push-u bras and the demi bras? what do the demi bras do? do you have to hand wash VS bras? what is the right age for people to start shopping at Victoria's Secret?
i only shop in the PINK section

Answer
Push up Bras - Have extra padding on the bottom of the cup to give you that certain look. Very Sexy Bras (A sub-brand of Victoria's Secret) has the most popular push up, but if your young this is probably not the look you are going for. Angel's Push up bras will give you a fuller look. I personally like the Very Sexy bras for special occasions and the Angel's push ups for everyday (they are wayy more comfortable).

Demi Bras - The bra cup is 3/4 the size of a normal bra cup, its worn for when you are wearing lower cut shirts and you don't want the bra cup to show, it is never a push up because you'll fall out of the bra cups... The Demi Cups can give you a rounder shape, but it doesn't have a lot of support.

Yes, hand wash all of the bras!!

You can start shopping there whenever you feel comfortable doing so. If your unsure about your size you can always go to the fitting room and get fitted. Then the Sales Associate can show you all the bras Victoria Secret carries in your size.

Where to get cheap bras?

Kim

My boobs are growing like crazy and I would like a good quality bra, but not an expensive one because I don't know if they'll be done growing. I'm about 14 weeks pregnant so I know they are going to get biiig the get smaller again after I breast feed. Soooo Is there anywhere that I can get a good cheap bra? Right now I need to find a 32D. Which I already know is going to be practically impossible. I can make a 34D work I suppose though. (I don't need nursing bras, just regular ones)

Answer
The bras at Ross are inexpensive, probably between $10-$18 or so. I think that Nordstrom Rack has a better quality and selection of bras (especially if you have a larger cup size), if you are willing to spend closer to $20-$30. The prices at Target would probably fall somewhere in between. Maybe consider some sports bras? The material is usually stretchy, so you might be able to get more use out of them as your chest size increases and decreases again later after you are done nursing.

Cheap online stores for big bras?

Martina

I'm wearing 34F and would like to try 32G since my back is riding up a bit.

This isn't a size I can get in a normal store (not where I live), so I'm looking online. I'm looking for the cheapest option available, since I just want to try it on and it may not fit.

Answer
I wear a 40F {I'm a little thicker around the middle, but I know where you're coming from =o)} It depends on your definition of "cheap" I order most of my bras online and usually spend $20-$50 each, depending on style and brand. I have reached the conclusion that women who wear bigger than a 'D' cup will never be able to find a nice, good-quality bra for a reasonable amount of money, until we threaten fashion designers within an inch of their lives, but I digress . . . here are some sites I have used in the past:

I'm a guy who wears a bra.
I posted a topic about quantity/types of bras i should get
but couldn't get a straight answer.
I'm a B/C cup.
Could you guys/girls fill this out?

Bra size:(Dont put if you feel uncomfortable)
Amount of bras:
Types of bras you own:
What is the best kind of bra to wear?

Answer
Bra size: 34/36C.
Amount of bras: Maybe 12.
Types of bras you own: I usually wear full-cup bras with under wires. No padding or anything fancy. Just solid colors. I wear sports bras sometimes too, but only when I just feel like wearing a t-shirt and jeans around or I have to do physical activity. I have some sexy bras too, but they're only worn on special occasions.
What is the best kind of bra to wear? Something comfortable and well-made. You don't want to buy something cheaply made because it will come apart easily and the under wire will start poking you. I think comfort is more important than how the bra looks, personally.

sports bras are meant to prevent excessive bouncing during heavy activity. And since a sports bra kinda smothers your boobs to prevent bouncing, when you transfer to cup bras it really will look like your boobs grew overnight, And people including yourself will just have to deal with the fact that you actually have boobs

do you wear a bra under a cheer sports bra?

DuhDuhduhD

i was just wandering as i have a normal sports bra that you don't wear a bra with but i don't know about the cheer ones as there aren't any support in them usually

Answer
that would depend if you are flat chested or not. if you have breasts & are leaving your house in this so called 'cheer' sports bra; then wear a bra under it. or wear a very loose shirt over it. just because it says 'sports bra' doesn't mean it's made to support you to actually 'do' sports in it. A 'sports' bra is the style of the bra or the cut NOT it's intended purpose. Supporting your breasts is very important. What you do to support them when you are young means what you will have as you get old.

white flakes in bra, pregnant?

ashley h

I'm 9 days late. it's thursday. i tested negative on monday. last night i took off my bra and notice white flakes inside and around my nipples. they are leaking slightly too. should i test again?

Answer
Lets see you are 9 days late, and are leaking, I would think this def. means you are pregnant. Many times the HCG hormone is not prevalent enough in some women until 2 weeks after their missed period. I know with my 2nd child I totally thought I was, and then took a test and it was negative. It was such a bummer, but a week later I decided to take it again, and it was for sure a positive. Be sure to take the test first thing in the morning though, because that is when you have the most of th HCG hormone. Good Luck!!

P.S. My current pregnancy I didnt find out until I was almost 6 weeks along,

Bras????????

fran

ok, so just a month ago i was wearing a 34B bra size. It started to feel real uncomfortable during school, so i bought 34C cup bras. When i was wearing 34B bras my breasts were not spilling over the tops of the cups, it just felt really uncomfrotable. I measured myself and my breasts are about 37 inches and my band size is 30 inches which makes me a 34C. When i look at my breasts in the mirror they dont look like a C. They are not full but they do stick out. I read somewhere that girls with 34C cup sizes have breasts the size of grapefruits, and mine are definitly not that big. I am wearing 34C bras because they are comfortable but i know that when i look at my breasts in the mirror they do not look like they are that size. Do other girls/women feel that way? I am 16 and i got my period when i was 11. Could me breasts still grow?

Answer
The manufacturers have changed bra sizes. Just like a size 0 in jeans now was a size 6 just two years ago. I have always worn a 32 A-I bought some new bras and had to buy a 32 B same manufacturer as the older 32A's. They are making them smaller I've been an A since I was 14-now all of a sudden at age 55 I'm a B? I don't think you're going to get any larger unless you start hormone therapy or get pregnant or gain a lot of weight. Bring back my old size bra!!

Ladies, questions about bra-shopping from an inexperienced shopper [Survey]?

rowena [

It's been a while since I've gone bra shopping, so I had some questions from those who are experienced. You can copy and paste the questions into your answer, to make it easier for you. FYI, I'm twenty, and I'm about a size 36B. Yeah, I'm really small :)

- How do you measure your bra size? Does that size hold up (no pun intended!) for all bra types or brands?

- What do you look for in a good bra?

- What brands or types of bras do you buy? (push-up, padded, underwire, etc.)

- How often do you buy new bras? When is a good time to buy new ones?

- Which type of bra is best for when you're wearing a dress? You know, so it doesn't show through?

- What advice would you give to an inexperience bra-shopper like me? What to look for, what to avoid, how to shop, how many to buy, colors, etc.? [lmao, I probably sound stupid!]

- How many times did I use the word bra in this question? :P

Thanks so much!

Answer
-How do you measure your bra size? Does that size hold up (no pun intended!) for all bra types or brands?
if you go to most bra stores they can have u measured but here's how you can measure at home:
first you measure the band size, so just under the breasts. in inches:
25-26 inches means you're band size is a 30
27-28 inches means you're band size is a 32
29-30 inches means you're band size is a 34
31-32 inches means you're band size is a 36
33-34 inches means you're band size is a 38
after that, measure around the breasts, and go to the column of this chart where your band size is, and find the measurement you just measured:
B C D
30 31-32 33-34 N/A
32 33-34 34-35 N/A
34 35-36 36-37 37-38
36 37-38 38-39 39-40
38 39-40 40-41 41-42
40 41-42 42-43 43-44

if u measure right it should be fine. some bras may be different when it comes to sizing so always try them on!

- What do you look for in a good bra?
i look for things that are comfortable, seems, and ones that seem like good quality and provide good support

- What brands or types of bras do you buy? (push-up, padded, under wire, etc.)
personally i love push-up bras, keeps them looking nice and perky, and can really make them look a lot bigger!

- How often do you buy new bras? When is a good time to buy new ones?
i buy my bras whenever needed..if i get bored or an old one doesn't fit or if i don't think i have enough bras. you don't really need to buy new ones often unless old ones become no good.
a good time to buy is when u see it on sale or a bra you really like.

- Which type of bra is best for when you're wearing a dress? You know, so it doesn't show through?
it depends on the dress. you'll need a good strapless one, that still provides support, for dresses that you don't want the strap showing. in terms of a tight dress, or something u will see your bra through, go for something that is similar to your skin colour if the dress is a bit see through, it must fit well so u don't have anything popping out (i.e ur breasts or a back bulge), and seamless bras work really good too, they don't show through, they look like they're not even there

- What advice would you give to an inexperience bra-shopper like me? What to look for, what to avoid, how to shop, how many to buy, colors, etc.? [lmao, I probably sound stupid!]
lol don't worry you don't sound stupid! i used to work at victoria's secrete you'd be surprised the type of questions we get asked! but you should always try on all your bras before you buy them, not all bras fit them same. you also want to make sure its comfortable and what you're looking for. you should have a bra in your drawer that is similar to your skin tone (for those white tanks and tees:p) and every girl needs their basic black bra, and also look for ones you think you look good in..its a real confidence booster when u like how u look..even in your bra and underwear!

- How many times did I use the word bra in this question? :P
you i actually did count and u used it 10 times lol

Experienced Girls: Bra Help?!?

elizabeth

I have a lot of questions so u can just copy and paste them so you don't have 2 type all this again
1. I am a little embarrassed about getting measured at a store ( which I will get over) but how do you ask them to measure you?
2. What bra do you think is best ( push up, Demi, lightly lined, add 2 cups, bustier bra etc.)
3. What color bras should I get?
4. Where do you get your bras from?
5. Should I ask to try on a bra? Will the store let me?
6. I've tried measuring myself at home but over the past couple months ( about 3 I think...) I've gotten a 34aa then a 34a but I'm pretty sure I'm a 34B, should I get measured anyway?
7. I feel awkward going alone but I have no one to bring! How do I try to look older and less... Awkward???
8. Should I get a strapless bra?
9. How many bras should I start with?
10. What kind of bra do you like best?
11. This is the last one I promise lol but has anyone ever tried/worn a sports bra with cups?
Sorry if there are spelling errors thank u

Answer
1. Many stores measure wrong. For instance, Victoria's Secret will measure OVER the bust to get the band size, which makes no sense as you wear your band underneath. Measure yourself first and then go to a small boutique rather than a mall store, just so you know when something is off (if your underbust is 28 and they hand you a 34 band, you KNOW something is wrong.)

2. I personally like moulded cup bras, but soft cup bras are always good too. Moulded cup bras give a very round appearance under clothing.

3. Get one to match your skin color, one black, and one white at the very least. Those are the basics.

4. I get my bras online since I'm a 30E/F and no place in my city sells that size. And no, my breasts aren't even that big.

5. Lingerie stores should always let you try on bras.

6. This guide is the best I've seen: http://www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits/wiki/fit_guide

They take several measurements rather than two (bust and underbust) in order to assess other factors, such as firm VS soft breast tissue, shallow VS projected breasts, et cetera.

7. Fitters see tons of women all the time, don't worry about it. Some fitters even see men.

8. If you're planning on wearing something strapless or don't want bra straps to show, then yes.

9. 3-4 is a good start. Bras will last longer if you rotate them (not wearing the same two days in a row). The elastic wears out much faster if you wear them everyday. Make sure the bra fits on the loosest hook first, that way when the band starts to stretch, you can switch it to the tighter hooks.

10. I really like lacy bras as well as bras with colourful prints. Longline bras are gorgeous.

11. I haven't, but I heard they're much better than the "uniboob" ones. :P

What is a contour bra?

Charlie C

I am just wondering what the differece was between push up bras and contour?
Thanks

Answer
A contour bra has cups that hold their shape. The cups are always padded or lined and they have an underwire. Contour bras are similar to a molded bra, except molded bras may not have cups with padding or underwires. Contour bras are a perfect choice for any woman seeking a sculpted silhouette, as they offer a significant amount of coverage and control. A contour bra can also add definition (not size) to the breast, a smooth shape, and elimination of nipple contours. A good choice for in-between bra sizes, or a woman with uneven breasts.

How do I sew a customized bra?

How to sew a customized bra

Answer
Bra making is a very satisfying and rewarding hobby and there are many stores that cater to the home bra-maker. They carry everything from patterns to special fabrics and all the little hooks, clasps, and other hardware you will need. You can't make a bra without proper instructions and patterns, bras are surprisingly complex. You don not need a serger or expensive sewing machine, a machine that does straight, zig zag and three step zig zag is all you need.

Here are a couple sites that have everything the beginner bra maker needs:
http://bramakerssupply.com/
http://www.sewsassy.com/index.shtml
Here's a series of lessons on how to make a bra by using one you own for the pattern: http://www.andsewitis.net/braclass/class_start.html
and here's a book I have that has everything you ever wanted to know about making bras: http://www.bramakersmanual.com/

And that should get you started. If you need a custom size making a bra can actually save money.

Bra Styles
There are dozens of styles of bras to fit your taste, size and particular occasion. Finding a bra that suits you should not be a problem. Once you have figured out your bra size and bra fitting requirements, you will want to decide what role your bra will play.

Below is a comprehensive list of bra designs for you to consider:

Sports Bras: Designed to keep your breasts under control when undertaking any physical activity.
Nursing Bras: Easy access to the food source for the breastfeeding mom.
Maternity Bras: Supports daily breast growth.
Mastectomy Bras: For your post mastectomy needs.
Full Figure Bras: If you are a large-breasted woman, you will want a full-figured bra.
Bridal Bras: Support for all that cake cutting.
Underwire Bras: Torture device disguised as underwear.
Vintage Bras: Remember the pointy, stick in your eye "bullet bras" from the 40's? Or the lung-compressing corset? Well, they're back and they are just as restrictive.
Teen Bras: Designed to talk back and be surly.
Belly Dance Bras: No matter what style of belly dance you may be studying, you will definitely want a beautiful belly dance bra. Guaranteed to improve your chest rolls.
Leather Bras: If you like leather, the leather bra is one more way to get your fix.
Sexy Bras: Depends on who you ask. Many would say NONE.
Name Brand Bras: Some people only want brand names so that they can name drop at cocktail parties. But who talks about underwear at parties?

Fitting a Bra
Wearing a bra that fits is much better for your breast health. Unfortunately, more than 70% of women are wearing the wrong size of bra. Don't be one of them!

Follow these four easy steps to ensure you are shopping for your bra size:

Measurement number 1: Measure under your bust line.

Put on your best-fitting, unpadded, under wire bra. Measure underneath the bust line and make sure to measure tightly. Be sure the tape measure is straight across your back.

The general rule of thumb for all measuring is: less than ½â, round DOWN, more than a ½â, round UP. So if your measurement is 32 ¼â, call it 32. Write this number down. This is measurement number 1.

Band Size: Calculate your band size.

If measurement 1 is UNDER 33 inches, add 5 inches. If this number is odd, round up to the next EVEN number. If measurement 1 is OVER 33 inches, add 3 inches. If this number is odd, round up to the next EVEN number. Write this EVEN number down. This is your band size.

Measurement number 2: Measure over the bust line

Measure over the biggest point of your bust line. This is a looser measurement. Make sure the tape measure is straight. Write this number down. This is measurement number 2.

Cup Size: Calculate your cup size.

First subtract measurement number 1 from measurement number 2. Then consult the following chart to find your cup size.

Name Brand Bras
All bras are not created equal. A cheap, poorly made bra is as easy to come by as a cheap and poorly made pair of shoes. And as with shoes, cheap and poorly made, typically mean you feel pain and the product wears out quickly.

Remember that buying a well-made, high-quality bra will give you the best fit and performance AND reduce the frequency of bra shopping for those of you that loath that experience.

The following is a part list of well respected, name brand bra manufacturers:

Bras are an investment. Shopping takes time. Bras cost a fair chunk of change. With proper care, your bras life will be extended to last as long as possible. If you decide to machine wash your bras, always use the gentle cycle and put bras in a nylon bag, stocking or special garment bag so that certain pieces like bras won't wrap around the agitator.

In between a bra and a hard place. How do you deal with manufactures' desire for symmetry?

Felicia

I was a 34D for the longest. Then I got off birth control, lost 15 pounds and was a very nice, very cute, very happy 32D.

Well now I'm back on birth control, 10 pounds heavier and the 32D on the last hooks is too small and the 34D on the tightest fit is too big.

The worst part is, because my breast aren't symmetrical, the 32D is good on one (more of less) and the 34D is good on the other (again, more or less).

Any ideas? I know I'm not the only one experiencing this annoying lingerie peeve of trying to find both a comfortable and sexy bra. Love to see a man upset about his inconsistencies of his ball size.

Answer
Bra sizing differs from manufacturer to manufacturer. 32D Triumph bra will fit much smaller than 32 Warner Bra, while 32D Maidenform bra will fit the largest. Itâs the same as clothing and shoe size that it differs from manufacture to manufacture. I know it shouldnât but it does. You might want to try different brands in the same size.

As for bra sizing. The number 32, or 34 in your case is number that represents the size of your rib cage all around â but letâs just make it simple and say it represents your back â how wide is your back. While the letter number in your case D represents cup size. Your back size can change if you lose or gain weight. Your cup size also changes with loss or gain of weight. But taking birth control increases ONLY your cup size if you stay at the same weight. Birth control pills are charged with hormones that make the breast swell up and retain more water in their tissue.

Asymmetrical breast are actually very common. In fact most of people are slightly asymmetrical. One foot slightly bigger than other, or fingers on left and right hand differ in size. A ring that you would wear on your left hand middle finger, might not fit on your right hand middle finger. Some people have bigger difference in asymmetry others have very tiny unnoticeable difference. There are many women who facing same asymmetry issues when buying bras. My suggestion is to purchase a bra that fits well your larger breast, and compensate for the lack of volume in the other cup by adding a small tiny padding into the bra. It will even out the look. Bra padding comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. You donât need to get any huge bulky pad. Just a small crest moon shape bra insert. Some bras come with pockets where you can insert padding. In that case you can remove the insert form your larger breast cup, and keep the insert only in the smaller breast cup.

Go out to a store that carries variety of bra brands, or go to a mall where there are several lingerie stores, and try on the same size 34D by different manufacturers. Iâm sure you will find that perfect bra. Itâs just a bit of time and patience. Once you will find a brand that works for you, you might want to stick with them.

My motto is: A girl should have a good quality bra regardless whatever the cost is, even if her t-shirt cost $5. That $5 t-shirt can look like million dollars if you are wearing a right bra underneath. Good bra makes a difference how all your clothes hangs on you. It even has an effect on your posture ï

A maternity bra?

cmf242004

I am 7 1/2 mo. pregnant fairly petite, am having a hell of a time "keeping UP" with the bra department. Suggestions? I have gone from 32A-36B need a new bra already! 38B? Thanks.

Answer
You can get the strap extenders to make more use out of your current bras. You could consider getting nursing bras at this point if you plan to breastfeed. You should get fitted at a maternity store, but the lady told me to get a bra that fits on the tightest hook now, and a cup size that gives you a little room to grow, but isn't too loose. You usually go up a cup size when your milk comes in. A 38C nursing bra should do.

maternity sleep bra??

Q. Do I really need the cotton ones or can I wear a normal nursing bra?

Answer
I'm sure you'd be fine wearing a regular nursing bra, I bought these sleeping ones from Motherhood Maternity that I love. I wear them during the day since I'm at home anyways, they're more comfy then ones with the underwires.

Help with getting less cheap bras?

Emily Cone

my mom bought me bras at tjmaxx (im 32a btw)
for $4 a pack of 2. i am flat, but not flat enough to have bras that cheap. they are horrible and wicked uncomfortable. i have a gift card to aerie that i would use to buy my own bra and 10$ off an PINK bra. for some reason she thinks all the bras at those stores make me look like i have big boobs, which not all of them do. she doeznt care if they are uncomfortable and i even had to purposely rip them but she doesnt budge. help!

Answer
I'm not entirely sure why your mother is worried about you wearing something that makes you *look* like you have bigger breasts?

An ill fitting bra is a plague. There is nothing good about it regardless of how cheap it may be. There's nothing wrong with the bras from TJMaxx, they're still name brand and whatnot, but if they don't fit, they don't fit.

Before I needed underwire, I found that the VS "soft cup" bras were really good. I'm old enough to have a daughter and I can tell you, if she made a valid argument about *why* something was uncomfortable and offered up gift certs/promotional discounts to buy from VS or aerie, I would be ok with it. I'm a little young to have a daughter who *needed* a bra, but I'm just telling you how to appeal to her.

Where can I find cheap comfortable bras?

Christine

Ok I don't need any lingerie type or lots of lace. Just comfy, daily wear bras in simple colors like black, grey, white, or striped or stuff like that. Solid colors are fine too. Aerie and Victoria's Secret have lots of cute bras but they're 20 dollars, I just don't think bras are worth that much.....
So where can I find cheap comfortable bras? Thanks!

Answer
It's really hard to find comfortable bras under $20 unless you get lucky and it's on clearance in your size. The Gilligan & O'Malley lace gel bras (currently on sale for $18 at Target) are my favorites, and I highly recommend them. They're especially good if you have a small cup size, but the larger ones are also very comfortable, just with less padding. The material on the inside of the cups feels great!

I've had 2 of them for about 4 months, and they show no signs of wear at all.

Can an ill fitting bra cause back pain?

Q. So I was wearing a 36 D, but i got remeasured to be a 32E (I know that they are the equivalent sizes). I have for a while now (at least a year ish) been getting a pain between my shoulder blades, a couple of inches above my strap. Could this have been due to the wrong sized bra? And if i start wearing the right size bra, will it go away immediately, or is there something else i need to do? I always tend to hunch over, could this be due to large cup size? Is it worth buying a whole new set of bras that are the "right" size, considering that im only 15, or should i get myself remeasured again to check if the most recent measurement was right? Finally, is it worth seeing anybody (ie doctor or whatever) about it or not? Thank you :)

Answer
An ill-fitting bra or larger breasts can both cause back pain - just obviously consider it may be down to other causes, most likely other cause to consider is bad posture!

You always should be wearing the right fitting bra - if you are a 32E then you need to be wearing a 32E, it may just be one cup size difference but the back measurement is two sizes smaller, which can make a big difference - if you haven't already got a set of bras in your size then yes, it's important to buy bras in the right size. It's also not just about size of the bra but ensuring that it's worn correctly, for example the back strap needs to be perfectly horizontal across your back and the shoulder straps shouldn't be able to lift more than an inch off your shoulders.

At your age breast growth and development is probably still occurring, your breasts never stop growing and changing throughout your life, adult women should be measured for bras every 6 months so logically as well as regular bra fittings you should double-check your bra size every time you buy a new bra. Remember too that your breasts size will increase/decrease slightly throughout your menstrual cycle so you may need two sets of bras in two different cup sizes.

Do see your doctor, the pain may be due to an ill-fitting bra but longer-term pain like this may be down to something else - I'd still put my money on posture, so it may be worth seeing a chiropractor instead to make sure your posture is as it should be and make any corrections if needed.

does this bra fit correctly?

So, i was told I'm a 32 C, but my boobs bulge out a little. Im not sure if it fit correctly or not. I tried a 32 D, and it covers my breast much more nicely, but the one thing i don't get it the middle of the bra, in between my two boobs, isn't flat against my skin. But it fits well, on my breast, and the band size doesn't ride up and feels comfortable. I know a larger size would leave excess baggage, so i know it would be too big. So I'm a little confused. Also, this bra gives me nice cleavage. just adding. Why is the middle not flat? I've heard its a sign of an ill fitting bra.
the middle of the 32-c also didn't lie flat

Answer
The bra does not fit. A well fitted bra should lay flat in the middle, not bulge on the sides or top and the straps should not slide around. Get fitted at a specialty store to be sure. If you don't feel comfortable in a 32C but that should be your size, the problem may be the bra style. Try a different style. Or you could go down a cup size and up a band size. (34B) It might fit better. Sounds like it would be smaller, but it's actually the same size.

How do you measure your bra size?

Animal

Hi,
To find out my size I just went to the stoor and tried bras on. But what is the way to do it at home without a bra? Thanks.
GIRLS ONLY please!

Answer
BRA SIZING:

It is estimated that 70% of women wear the wrong bra size.
Poorly fitting bras can cause back strain and loss of firmness.
Get your cloth tape out and see if you are among that 70%.Determining your bra size

Band size

1. Measure around your chest where your bra strap would go.
2. Round the number up or down one depending on your choice of snug or loose fit.
3. If you round the number down it is possible you may need to go up one-cup size.

Cup size

1. Measure around the fullest part of your bust.
2. Take this number and subtract your band size from it.
3. Now the chart below tells you what size cup you are.

{Difference in inches = cup size}

0 to 1 ½ inches = A cup
1 ½ - 2 ½ = B
2 ½ - 3 ½ = C
3 ½ - 4 ½ = D
4 ½ - 5 ½ = DD/E
5 ½ - 6 ½ = F
6 ½ - 7 ½ = G

How do you know if your bra fits?

1. First- remember that the elasticity of bras naturally wears out decreasing the function of the bra.
2. Most bras should be replaced every 6 months.
3. The band fits if it is level (not riding up or drooping) across your back. It should be snug, but not too tight for comfort, when you use the center hooks.
4. The underwire and centerpiece should be flat against your chest.
5. If a bra does not fit you can try a smaller band width and larger cup size or vice versa.
6. The back band of your bra should be anchored at or below your shoulder blades.

Fitting tips:

1. Wrinkled cups. Go down a cup size
2. Spilling breasts- larger cup size or fuller coverage bra
3. Falling straps- adjust the straps or go down a cup size
4. Band rides up in back- Try a tighter hook or loosen straps. If that does not work go down
one band size

Fashion fit tips:

1. If you like a more distinct waistline try a bra that provides lift and projection.
2. Bras during pregnancy? A bra made with micro fiber or cotton will grow with you.
3. Do you have wrinkles at the top of your cup? A bra with a seam helps to lift and hold the breast tissue up.
4. Having trouble finding a bra to fill you out? Try a soft cup bra, a shallow cup, or one with contour lining or padding.
5. Want more cleavage? Try a plunging centered bra or a padded push up bra.
6. Do you have two distinctly different sized breasts? Try a stretch bra or one with removable pads.
7. Have problems keeping blouses from gapping open? Try a minimizer.
